Over the course of three weeks, I have observed five regular and several wandering homeless people solely on State Street and East Liberty Street. A good man is hard to find 2 Essay The short story A Good Man is Hard to Find by Flannery OConnor could be viewed as a comic strip about massacre and martyrdom. What stops it from becoming a solemn story is its intensity, ambition, and unfamiliarity. OConnor blends the line between humor and terror. She introduces her audience to the horror of self-love. The grandmother is thought of by the community as agood person and appears to be so on the surface, but she is also mean and narcissistic. She forces her family to abide by her wishes; she sees them as an extension of herself; and she seizes every opportunity to get what she wants. By manipulating her grandchildren, she gets her son to go back to the house with the secret panel, causing them to meet The Misfit, and ultimately sealing the entire familys death. OConnor makes the trite seem sweet, the humdrum seem tragic, and the ridiculous seem righteous. She contrasts the two houses, The Tower: the restaurant owned by Red Sammy, and the plantation house. The restaurant is a broken-down place- a long dark room with a tiny place to dance. At one time Red Sammy found pleasure from the restaurant but now he is afraid to leave the door unlatched. He has given in to the meanness of the world. In contrast to the horrible Tower is the grandmothers peaceful memories of the plantation house that is filled with wonderful treasures. However, the family never reach this house because this house does not even exist on the this dirt road or even in the same state. Because of the grandmothers pride she cannot admit that she has made a mistake. Its not much farther, the grandmother said and just as she said it, a horrible thought came to her. The thought was so embarrassing that she turned red in the face and her eyes dilated and her feet jumped up. (144). The grandmothers pride and self-centered wish to see the house causes the Misfit to discover and murder the family. Both houses are, in effect, ruins of the spirit. It is a comic view of the family that the reader receives in the first half of the story. The comedy is in the way OConnor has very matter of factly and nonchalantly reported the characters outlandish actions and appearances. OConnor has made this even more funny by not appearing to tell it in a funny way. The grandmother is the funniest and most colorful of the characters in the story; she is pushy, annoying, and at times an endearing grandmother. OConnor makes the grandmother a target for her satire right from the beginning by exposing her absurd wardrobe and old-fashioned mannerisms. The grandmother had on a navy blue straw sailor hat with a bunch of white violets on the brim and a navy blue dress with a small white dot in the print. Her collars and cuffs were white organdy trimmed with lace and at her neckline she had pinned a purple spray of cloth violets containing a sachet. In case of an accident, anyone seeing her dead on the highway would know at once thatshewas a lady. (138) The last line becomes ironically funny because ultimately this is where the grandmother ends up- in a ditch dead. As a reader one must then question the seriousness of the author towards her characters and should the reader have a sympathetic view towards these characters when they are being presented to an audience as comical figures and an elaborate joke. He would bring us to what he thought were the cool toys such as mechanical gadgets and how we wouldn’t even look at them and directly walk off like zombies to the Barbie section. It is possible, but I believe the more educated we are, the less we will care about whether we are a man or a woman. In some countries, it is the communities’ traditions which still give to men more rights and privileges than to women. This is mostly because people in those areas are not yet socially evolved to the Western level. Men have to demand that their wives, daughters, mothers and sisters earn more—commensurate with their qualifications and not their gender. Equality will be achieved when men and women are granted equal pay and equal respect. Humanity requires both men and women, and we are equally important and need one another. So why are we viewed as less than equal? These old attitudes are drilled into us from the very beginning. We have to teach our boys the rules of equality and respect, so that as they grow up, gender equality becomes a natural way of life. And we have to teach our girls that they can reach as high as humanly possible. We have a lot of work to do, but we can get there if we work together. Women are more than 50 percent of the population and more than 50 percent of the voters. We must demand that we all receive 100 percent of the opportunities.

How Do We Communicate Nonverbally Essay Communication is the process of sharing information, ideas and feelings through the use of spoken (verbal), written, or gestures (non verbal). Along the way in the evolutionary process, where we gained in the areas of technology, education and travel, we’re somewhat lagging in the art of nonverbal communication. We’re trained to prefer words to communicate, often overlooking tell-tale nonverbal cue, which can range from a nod or a smile to a momentary frown and fist clench or a seemingly nonchalant shrug of the shoulders. Research has proved over and again that 93% of communication is conducted nonverbally, of which 38% is through vocal tones ( the intensity and pitch) and another 55% is through ones facial expressions. Body language is the oldest language but its components are significantly varying across cultures and geographical boundaries. For instance, the â€Å"OK† gesture in the American culture is a symbol for money in Japan. The same gesture is obscene in some Latin American countries. People are generally comfortable with others who have â€Å"body language† similar to their own. When one persons nonverbal language matches that of another, there is increased comfort and the barriers in communication are significantly reduced. However, the communicating process can also be hampered by conflicting words. You could be saying one thing but your body would be telling the receiver something completely different. This discrepancy in verbal and nonverbal communication is the reason that causes confusion. Experts advise that when confronted with such a conflict, listen, but with your eyes! The importance and impact of nonverbal communication cannot be stressed on enough. You can understand a person entirely just by reading his body language. He can give away his personality, his feelings, his fears, his perception of himself and of someone else, his leadership style – in short, all there is to a person are honestly communicated through the nonverbal signals he gives off. Whether we choose to emphasize the former or the latter, the silent language is much louder than it first appears. Response to Emotionally Healthy Spirituality I have lived among Christians my whole life. Over half of the people I know are Christians. God has taught me through my experience, before and after conversion, that there is work to being a Christ follower. Peter Scazzero, in his book Emotionally Healthy Christianity, tells us that we as Christians are often struggling more than we think. Emotions touch every part of our lives and can control different aspects of us if we are not trusting the God we say we love. Jesus said in Matthew 11, â€Å"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.† Jesus said that He would help lighten the load, but He never said that it was going to be easy. As Christians we need to love and trust Jesus in every way so that we can deny ourselves, while still finding value in ourselves, and let the Holy Spirit wor k through us in every circumstance. Emotions are, and should be, in every part of our life. We would be lost without happiness, sadness, anger, or even silliness. John reminds us that, â€Å"We love because God first loved us. (1 Jn 4:19)† Love is a grand topic, there are many definitions for the word, and yet they are all right. If someone were to dedicate themselves to the study of even earthly love they would have more than a lifetimes worth of work to do. Contemplating these things are essential to emotional maturity. Scazzero says that, â€Å"contemplation and emotional health are different and yet overlap. In a very real sense, both are necessary to loving God, loving ourselves, and loving others. (Scazzero, 46)† Godl... ...ese things I believe the country could be turned upside down in a week. God longs for us to love Him and show others love in an emotionally healthy way. Doing that is not always easy and I think that is the point. Because it is not always easy we need to rely on the Father’s prevision for our lives and trust Him rather than our own impulses. I think that Scazzero hit the nail on the head with that idea. The Holy Spirit is alive and available to help if we would submit to the Father and trust the work of Jesus. To do this is not always easy, but in trusting in the things God says to us in our quiet times and through our Christian community we can live a fruitful life while staying emotionally healthy in our spirit. The women can also identify themselves with the product, as a sophisticated and independent woman.It's a sparkling apple flavored premium drink, which in the advertisement, is served in a champagne glass. The product differentiates itself from other products that are towards women. The taste and design is also adapted to their culture. The product was new to the world, when it comes to design, the liquid product, materials and ingredients. It is something the African women desired. A major advantage they had, when innovating this p roduct was that they had conducted market research to develop insight on modern African female consumers and the role that alcohol plays in their lives.Their R team made Hereford a specific product that is relevant to African female consumer. With the help of R they made a innovation that maintained the customers focus. This is really important in terms of finding a strategy' for the product. However, what makes the R&D so successful is the communication they have internally. They report to local businesses directly in order to ensure alignment they have with strategy, market and consumer. Another successful innovation that Adagio created was Rut Extra. It was a â€Å"clear bee† which targets the value consumer.The beer was a Ghanaian beer made from Ghanaian cassava and therefore, it engaged community leaders, which in return engaged the community and it made the community wanting to buy the product. The product was placed strategically in cultural festivals, which could incr ease brand awareness and find the right consumers for it. To develop their product strategy Adagio has, in addition to R&D and communication, carefully used other tools for the best result, such as collaborations and cost structures. Both of these are really important.The elaboration with regional and country teams plays an important role in centralization. By collaborating they could integrate different functions and desires that was necessary to make the product a success. Another reason why both of these products have been successful is the cost structure Adagio have. Adagio has collaborations with local farmers and suppliers, therefore allowing them to lower their cost. As a result of the cost structure they are able to have bigger quantity than their competitions, which give the consumer more value for the price.
